Faux wood shutters — poly, composite, PVC, whatever name you see — are a painted plastic panel. Solid, durable, and the right choice in a lot of rooms. But paint is the only finish they take. If you want a stain that matches your floors or existing trim, hardwood is the only material that gets you there.
We sell both, so we have no reason to steer you toward the more expensive one. Real wood earns its place on three things: it takes a stain, it's lighter so it spans wider windows without extra rails, and it shows genuine grain rather than a smooth painted surface.

Hardwood has a naturally strong, low-density cellular structure. Solid plastic is denser for the same dimensions, which is why faux wood panels weigh more and need extra support on wide spans.
We don't recommend it. Daily steam and splashing water can eventually swell the wood at the joints and lift the finish. Faux wood is unaffected by moisture and is the better choice for bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry rooms.
In a climate-controlled interior room, properly finished hardwood shutters stay stable for years. The risk comes from sustained moisture — direct steam, standing water, or an unconditioned space — not from ambient heat alone.
A closed solid panel adds insulation at the glass, the same as faux wood does. It's one of the more effective window treatments for reducing heat gain, though it isn't a substitute for good windows or attic insulation.
Dust regularly with a microfiber cloth or feather duster. For light cleaning, a slightly damp cloth followed immediately by a dry towel works fine. Avoid soaking the wood or using harsh chemical cleaners, which can damage a stained finish.
3.5 inch is the regional default and works for most windows. Go to 4.5 inch on tall or wide openings where you want the fewest lines across the glass — real wood's light weight makes this size especially practical on large windows.
You choose. Domestic production runs about three weeks at a higher price. Imported production runs about eight weeks and costs less. We quote both so you can decide what matters more — speed or budget.

Yes. Arches, sunbursts, angled tops, and other specialty shapes are built to a template taken from your actual opening, same as our other shutter materials.
Our limited lifetime warranty covers manufacturer's defects. If a louver warps, a tilt rod breaks, or a mechanism fails under normal use, we repair or replace it at no charge, for as long as you own the product in your home.
